The Charleston Comedy Festival ended a little over a week ago, so why am I writing about it now? ‘Cause it’s way to important to skip it just ’cause I was too busy at the time to blog about it (this doing/writing about mashup is a difficult groove to get into).
The show: Sold out, easy to do and fun. As always, I felt a bit self-conscious surrounded by comedy ‘artists’. I was sharing the Charleston Ballet Theater with the Cook County Social Club who were nice enough before the show, but actually did a parody of hypnosis shows right after my show. I was glad to see they didn’t get much material from me. Still felt kind of ‘dicky’; but I tried to laugh at what was funny about it. The review by the local hipster paper, the Charleston City Paper, is here.
I can’t help but start any festival gig by grabbing the local paper and looking at the coverage. The official paper and major sponsor of the Charleston Comedy Festival is the Charleston City Paper and they print a special comedy festival section, so I cracked it open, first thing to see how I ‘did’. I found a nice write-up, a HUGE advertisement for the show and a listing in the schedule grid. Here’s what made chuckle: On the grid, right next to my show there was a little glyph that could be recognized as two F’s. Checking the bottom of the page, clued you into the fact that the glyph represented shows that were “family friendly”. The glyph only appeared ONCE! The easiest graphic designer job EVER!
<> You may notice a bunch of these blog entries are posted at almost the same time and out of chronological order. This is because I am a very inconsistent blogger but refuse to let certain topic fall to the wayside. My only recourse is to get them down as I find them (notes that is). So don’t spend too much time trying to decipher the order and just, enjoy!
