Monday morning quarterbacking…Did a comedy night at the 3 restaurant in Franklin. Didn’t know what to expect but my expectations were high because it was booked by my friend Bob Mello and Laughs on Us productions. What I found was dinner for 100 in a packed room, with people primed for comedy.
I’m so glad I have entered the regional comedy scene as a headliner. I feel like I’ve got the chops and it’s nice to be able to do my show, plus have a little stage time to experiment. Sat night I tried 3 new jokes and I have to say the results were outstanding. It’s been an interesting time because I am writing so much these days, trusting so much, and hopefully continuing to find venues to ‘get stuff out there’ fast enough to see it work, so that I commit to it.
Really can’t wait for my next Royal Caribbean gig so I can bring all this new, shiny comedy to their theater stages; I look back at the show I was doing 5 years ago and honestly think ” Good; but I’m actually funnier now then I was then.”
That’s a good feeling.
Gratuitous link: I have never followed the traditional path to getting college gigs: joining NACA. The National Association for Campus Activities is a close-to monopoly for acts trying to ‘pitch’ at colleges and it’s frustrating because as with most associations, getting in with the association is almost as important as the quality of the product. So instead I have done things the hard way ( a common theme, in retrospect). Here’s my college show webpage with all the info you need to know without the NACA membership seal.
